The rules for using HogMatch, for buyers and sellers alike.

What HogMatch is

HogMatch is an online marketplace that connects breeders selling show pigs with buyers looking for them. HogMatch is not the seller of any animal listed on the site, does not own or house any animal, and is not a party to the sale agreement between a buyer and a seller.

Seller obligations

  • Describe every animal accurately, including breed, sex, date of birth, weight and any known fault.
  • Disclose any known health issue before a sale completes.
  • Hold the legal right to sell the animal listed.
  • Comply with all applicable state and federal rules on livestock sale, movement and health documentation.
  • Honour the listed price and the agreed collection arrangements once a sale is agreed.

Buyer obligations

  • Pay the agreed amount by the agreed method.
  • Collect or arrange transport within the agreed timeframe.
  • Satisfy yourself as to the suitability of an animal before purchase.

Prohibited listings

Animals the seller does not own, animals subject to a movement restriction, misrepresented animals, and any listing that breaches applicable law.

When a sale becomes binding

A listing is an invitation to ask the breeder about the animal. A sale is formed between the buyer and the breeder when the buyer pays the displayed deposit on HogMatch: from that moment the animal is held for that buyer, the breeder is committed to the sale at the listed price, and the two exchange contact details to arrange collection. The remaining balance is paid directly to the breeder at pickup and is not processed by HogMatch. HogMatch is the marketplace, not a party to the sale: it does not own, inspect, house or transport the animal and does not guarantee its health, quality or suitability. HogMatch, LLC keeps the commission shown on the Listing Fees page out of the deposit.

Account suspension

HogMatch may suspend or remove a seller account for misrepresentation, non-disclosure of health issues, failure to honour sales, or any breach of these terms.

Limitation of liability

HogMatch provides the platform only. To the fullest extent permitted by law, HogMatch is not liable for the condition, health, suitability, provenance or performance of any animal, nor for any dispute, loss or injury arising between a buyer and a seller.
